We’ve all experienced it; a little voice (or three!) piping up from the back seat of the car every five minutes: “Are we there yet?”, “Are we there yet?”
So what happens when you’ve booked a beautiful holiday to bring the family closer together, but instead of making memories, you’re faced with the stress of the kids complaining the whole way to your holiday destination?
Here’s our top tips to beat backseat boredom and keep the kids happy on the road to your next Wyndham timeshare holiday.
Choose your destination carefully
Start by selecting a kid-friendly resort or accommodation that’s a relatively short drive away. The best part about the Wyndham timeshare network is that there’s plenty of options near many of the major towns and capital cities around Australia. This means you can select a holiday a short drive away and still feel like you’re really getting a good break. A couple of hours down the road can feel like paradise.
Embrace technology
There’s no doubt about it, technology is a big part of life for the whole family these days. Although a holiday is a great time to get back to basics and minimise ‘screen time’, for your own sanity think about enforcing this rule after the long drive rather than before.
Ahead of your trip think creatively about what educational apps and games you can download on the family tablet or handheld device. Check out ‘free’ kids activities and search for age-appropriate educational games in the App Store. If you don’t own a tablet, head to your local department store and invest in pocket-sized sets of Connect Four, electronic chess or Battleship. These are all great games that will flex those problem-solving skills while keeping the kids amused.
Let the kids get creative
Invest in a stack of colouring books, sketch pads, cute pens and pencils, stickers, puzzles and activity books before the drive. You’ll be amazed at how engrossed the kids can get tapping into their creative side.
Bonus tip: Store these goodies in the backseat so if you head out for a nice meal or find yourselves at a more adult-inclined spot during the holiday, you’re armed with activities to bust any potential boredom.
Plan your trip
Before you hop in the car plan your road trip and look at what sights and attractions you might be able to visit along the way. If you’re travelling with younger children, allow for more frequent toilet stops and pick a couple of interesting places where the kids can be entertained and everyone can stretch their legs and enjoy a bit of fresh air in the process.
Snacks
Avoid stocking up on sugary snacks and instead opt for nutritious food such as cut up fruit and vegetable sticks with healthy dips such as hummus. Selecting slow release energy foods will avoid hyperactivity, energy dips and frustration from the back seat.
There’s plenty of benefits to picking a Wyndham timeshare holiday that’s close to home. Avoiding the travelling interstate or overseas by plane means more time to focus on holiday fun. With a little bit of planning, you can definitely turn the dreaded drive to your next Timeshare holiday into an adventure the kids will love.
